The Next Big Thing

‘The Next Big Thing’ Blog-tag

A big thanks to Emma Briant, who tagged me!

I had to answer these ten little questions:

1 What is the working title of your book?
Giving Up the Ghost: Spooky Tales of Haunted Objects. Though that may change as I'm making a two-fer with some ghost hunting advice thrown in.

2 Where did the idea come from for the book?
I wrote years ago about a friend/fellow paranormal researcher who collected haunted objects. The post was incredibly popular so I thought a book would feed the need of those looking for more information.

3 What genre does your book fall under?
Paranormal

4 Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
Since it's a variety of stories, I'd have an ensemble cast. Daniel Craig would, naturally, be my love interest.

5 What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
Is that clown doll looking at you funny?

6 Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
It's slated for a Fall 2013 or Spring 2014 release with Llewellyn Publishing.

7 How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
Since it's nonfiction, it will take me about three months to complete.

8 What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
There's a great book called Haunted Objects: Stories of Ghosts on Your Shelf by Christopher Balzano and I love the Possessed Possession series by Ed Okonowicz.

9 Who or What inspired you to write this book?
I've been researching and writing about ghosts for over twenty years. I've seen a lot of odd things and heard about of even more so wanted to share what I've learned with a curious public.

10 What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
Not only stories will be featured but also the history of haunted objects, how to do your own investigation, jinxed items.

Now I’m going to tag the following wonderful writers:

Please visit their blogs. They will be publishing their answers to the same questions on Monday, October 29th.

Message for the tagged authors and interested others:

Come at me, Bro: Have a ghost story to share?

This month has been hoppin'! I'm writing guest posts for some fantastic bloggers and book reviewers, I can't thank them enough for asking me to chime in with my -- let's say special, brand of humor when it comes to ghosts, then a Ghoul School for an elementary school, and a ghost hunting class for the Frederick County Historical Society during their Who's Haunting Abram's Delight event on October 27th, in Winchester, Virginia. The best part of this whirlwind isn't the crazy amount of ghost cookies I've consumed, though they are awesome, but the people I've come in contact with that have stories to share or just want to talk ghosties.

Have a question or a story? Come at me, bro. I can't wait to chat.  =D

Ghost hunting Q & A group at Goodreads

Join me at Goodreads to ask those burning questions:
"How do you not scream like a wee girl and run off when a ghost starts pulling your hair?"
"Is LaMishia really ghost bait? She does get all the good EVPs."
"How can I get my own Ghost in a Jar?" (still working on this one)

I've started a group to chat about those fun things so let's get the heads rolling. What's your best ghost story?

Black boxes o'Doom

:shakes fist at sky:

Wil Wheaton you, Google! (I'm working on curbing my salty language. I know Wil Wheaton wouldn't mind filling in)

Blogger has eaten my photo collection so until I replace them all, please enjoy this photo of a baby hedgehog taking a bath and Wil in a clown sweater.

Wanted: Haunted object stories (and a new book deal!)

As I said with the Girls' Ghost Hunting Guide, I love projects that sneak up quietly and slide right into awesome. Right before I left for the Haunted Mansion Writers Retreat, my agent dropped me a note that Llewellyn Publishing would like a peek at my proposal for Giving Up the Ghost: Spooky Tales of Haunted Objects -- something I had put on the back burner as another proposal Wee Beasties: A Field Guide for Curious Children was about to head out of the gate. What could we say? Dawn sent the proposal to my fabulous new editor, Amy, and now we're making the magic happen, baby!

Now this is where y'all come in: I would love to interview you for the new book with your first-hand haunted object stories! Toys, paintings, jewelry, furniture, mirrors -- come at me, bro. Email me at stacey.i.graham[at]gmail.com and let's chat!
